EMERGENCY KIT
From the OSSA "Basic Search and Rescue Certification Course"

This is the "bare bones" kit.  You won't be comfortable with this kit but with wise use it could help you survive

Whistle  -- Sure beats hollerin' and saves your voice for telling your tale of getting lost when you get back to the campfire.

4 safety pins – Can't sew?  Never fear! Pinman is near.  Walter Hunt, known as the father of the safety pin (aka Pinman)
patented the safety pin in 1840.  To this day, the safety pin has not been improved upon.

Single edge safety razor – Will make you wonder why you ever packed that heavy hunting knife.
3 packages, 10 matches each, waterproof (emergency supply) matches   -- 2” candle stub (emergency fire starter)

These guys will get a fire going in no time --  Meets Rule of 3s* number one requirement.

2 large, heavy duty garbage bags (emergency shelter) – Get inside one – Drape one over a low limb – Better than a cardboard box on a city sidewalk any day of the week.

Emergency sun glasses – Eastern Oregon a must.  Western Oregon a maybe.  Coastal Oregon a joke.

Signal mirror (could use a compass mirror) Again, sure beats hollerin'

Water treatment system – Remember rule of 3s*

For some good advice about water treatment go to the water treatment page in this manual http://ccso.server101.com/II-w6_purification.htm

*Rule of 3s
