Channel Selector
Most SAR type radios have a channel selector for the first dozen or so channels similar to the rotatable switch above the arrow in the photo. But it must be stressed that each radio model has a different method of tuning to the next set of channels. In fact, some older radios do not have this expanded capability. It is imperative that each SAR member enlist the aid of a knowledgeable veteran to coach him/her in the art of tuning to the higher channels before carrying the radio on a search. Ideally, each radio will be equipped with a waterproof printout of the
channel numbers, the frequencies on the respective channels and the agency or
origin of the frequency.
This handheld is a Kenwood TK-290. It is typical of radios in use in SAR. |
