All's well that ends well. A 58 year old woman and her Labrador Retriever were reported missing along the beach south of Bandon. SAR was called out and within an hour had assembled eleven members where the missing person was last seen. A Coast Guard helicopter and the
Sheriff's office riding ATVs had covered the beach and had failed to find any
trace of the woman or her dog. After the area surrounding the woman's planned route was covered, the ground team searched an additional patch of gorse ridden ground south of where the woman was headed. At 3:00 AM, the Sheriff's Office decided to end the search for the night. The plan was for SAR members to get some rest and be called out the next day if the woman was not located. As it turned out, the woman was located by a Coast Guard helicopter at dawn this morning. She was cold, bedraggled and hungry but otherwise okay. She was found about four miles south of where we were looking. She had overshot her destination and wound up near New River. The Sheriff's Office was very pleased with our work. We had eleven members on the search. |
